Wenger: Is he taking the p*** out of us? Why the delay in confirming Gervinho?

Gervinho - what are they waiting for?

I am fuming. I am fuming because I have just read the latest missive from Arsene Wenger on the official website. Cast your mind back to the end of the season. I may be mistaken but I seem to remember Wenger telling us that this would be a busy Summer for Arsenal in the transfer market. We were given the distinct impression that the penny might have dropped at last, and the dead-wood was going to move on while a number of quality new players would be added. Most of us expected to lose Fabregas, Clichy and Nasri, but it wouldn't matter too much if serious investment was made to replace them and strengthen as necessary. Here we are six weeks on and we have sold Clichy and signed a kid from the third division (and one signing as yet unannounced - more below).
The most infuriating thing about this latest nonsense from Wenger is the "hope" that we can bring in "one or two more quality players." Then there is the George Graham style quote of "we want to find the quality we need." Get me a pen and paper, Arsene, and I'll start making you a f***ing list.
Does he truly believe that we need only "one or two" quality players? It seems clear now, with the squad about to fly to Malaysia and China, that nothing is changing at Arsenal. Once again Wenger has allowed the dust to settle, in his view, before reverting to type and refusing to address the deep problems within this Arsenal team. I have tried to ignore the lack of action in the transfer market (unsuccessfully it should be said) and this disgraceful interview given by Wenger has caused me to snap. It is clear that nobody on the board is giving him the hurry-up, which confirms all we need to know about his all-powerful grip on Arsenal. I'm sick of the apologists that tell you the season is still a month away, and the transfer market only opened one week ago - is there a bigger load of bull**** than that? Just because the window has only just opened doesn't mean that you can't have got your business done beforehand - just ask Manchester United and Liverpool. We've suffered much frustration as Arsenal fans in recent years with Wenger's refusal to spend our money (and make no mistake, it is our money, not his) but I am sinking to new depths this year. On Tuesday the players take part in their first game, and yet there is nothing different from the end of last season. It is an absolute disgrace and Wenger is responsible.

On the subject of lack of activity I can tell you that Gervinho's deal is done with the player. The Ivorian had his publicity shots, with the Arsenal shirt, taken on Wednesday. So why have the Club not announced it? Is there not a full agreement with Lille? Given that there is such frustration, and this has been acknowledged by Wenger today, Arsenal should be making this deal public and assuaging the anger of a lot of the fans. I doubt very much that Gervinho will fit the criteria of a "quality player" but as we're in straw grabbing territory I'll take anything right now.

  1. I swear... I'm frustrated! One or two players he said he's bringing in. Arsene is a big joke? what about the replacement of gael clichy? what about the two solid centre backs. We surely need the another striker just incase van persie got injured again. Wenger its time you resigned! You've lost it!

  2. Take a deep breath, hold on to it for 30seconds and then slowly blow it out of your ass. Oh sorry that`s what you have just been doing, writing this little whinge.

So when did YOU buy Arsenal fc? How much did Silent Stan make you pay? Or is this just your narcissistic, regular self, where everything is to be done with you in mind.

DvbrisG, I`ll have Wenger send a personal message to you. Letting you into the deepest recesses of his plans. Those same plans that we mere fans have been told will be made clear to us at the END OF THE MONTH

  3. Peter - the moment I part with money on my season ticket, my replica kit, my boys' Junior Gunners memberships - THAT is when I buy Arsenal Football Club. The money I put in to the Club, along with thousands of other people is with the intention that it be used to bolster the playing options - that is what I'm referring to. Arsenal may legally belong to shareholders, but without the fans and their constant spending on the Club it is nothing. Arsenal, like any other football club, is only as good as it's fans. If you misunderstand that then I must assume you are post Euro96 fantasist who knows nothing of the history of the game.
I've been going to Arsenal since 1983 (we were shit back then and I don't want a return to those days - and make no mistake that is where we're heading). That gives me a right to air my opinion and claim that the money the Club spends belongs to people like me. You don't agree with that? Fine, but don't accuse me of talking out of my arse, you cretin.
The end of the month will render the whole idea of pre-season irrelevant - the new players (if they ever arrive) will have had no time to settle with their new surroundings and team-mates. Get the business done now if you intend to do any - and I don't believe Wenger does.

  4. Well said Dvbris. Too many Johnny Come lately's think the sun shines out of Wengers arse just cos they don't know any different. Only supported the Arsenal since he came. We pay the money we expect them to spend it too not just fill their pockets

  5. Yes it can be frustrating not knowing what is going on but, I have never known Arsenal to talk openly about their business. You may have a short memory but but a bid was put in for Jones and he did talk with Wenger but chose Utd instead. so there have been some attempts to sign quality players. However how many top quality players do you think 30 million buys and if Wenger loses both fabregas and nasri how many quality replacements will that buy. I could make a list right now too but that is not going to help. The thing needed is to offer the right price for the player then haggle over when the money is given so as say Bolton want 17 million for cahill say fine we will give you 12 million now and the other 5 million in add ons for x amount of appearances and England appearances etc. Remember also we have some very good youth players. Lansbury who acquitted himself ably at the u21 championships with England Frimpong is strong and quick if fit Miquel at centreback has some real quality just needs big game experience. Myachi who acquitted himself very ably in holland has plenty of ability from the games I have seen. Of course some experience is vital so does Cahill fit that bill. The problem is quality and experience is not cheap so when Wenger says one or two players that is probably because that is all 30 million buys not because he is tight.

  6. Silver1971 - the sums don't add up. £30m is this year's budget, right? So what happened to the massive money from selling Ade and Kolo two years ago which has never been spent? What about the money from selling Clichy? What about the money that should have been raised from selling the crap like Denilson and Rosicky and Diaby and Squillaci and Eboue and Bendtner? You see, the budget is at least £70m, even before the players that should have been sold...

  11. DvbrisG your comments you made were spot on arsen wenger is a cunt, he chats so much shit its unreal. were sell 3 players and bring in 2 its a fucking joke. and people saying we only got 30 million think u need to do more research they say 60million funds avaliabe plus 7 million from clinchy, and get 50miliion for all the other flops and spend the 117million on quality players, and people who trust in wenger arent true supporters cant you see hes tearing the team apart and running it into the ground the true supporters are the 1s who aint afraid to air there opions and show Wenger he isnt bigger than the club, so spend our money yes our money without loyal fans there wouldnt be arsenal therefor no money. we listend to your lies and excuses for 6 yrs and been paitence now listen to the fans for fuck off, cause your making us a laughing stock, being called a youth academy now for the likes of man city barca now even chelsea and man utd jumping on the band wagon, build players to superstars to just sell em on no wonder we never win fuck all, wake up and buy 6 quality players a Goalie 2 Defenders 2 midfiders and a striker. DvbrisG keep up the posts mate back ya all the way

  12. More neurotic whingeing from people who believe every bit of crap they read in the papers and think everything coming out of the club is a lie. You know nothing about what's going on inside the club and there's no reason why you should. I'd ask where your intelligence has gone but I don't think you ever had any. I suppose on the basis of your arguments you also think you own Beyonce because you downloaded one of her tracks. Get a life numpties.

  13. Wenger is obstinate in his I-am-right approach to things and is obviously keen on proving everybody wrong.Right now,he's given us nothing to look forward to with his actions in the transfer window. And with his current comment, its back to I-belive-ther-is-nothing-wrong-with-the-team.We all know tha in Wenger lingo, one or two quality signings means no signins. He's lost focus of his job i.e. winnig silverware "while" building a great team. He's winning nothing(kinda likes running-up) and destroying the legacy he built when he had his marbles. I think its time for him to go.He's a good coach, bbut he remindsme of the captain of the Titanic who sank the ship 'cos he wanted to make it to port in record time.Adieu Wnger. We lost a good coach. Now we have a peddler (for monetary gains)of footballers.

  14. NBG - if you think I get my opinion of Arsenal from reading the newspaper then you are sorely mistaken. My opinion is built on watching Arsenal, in the flesh, for almost thirty years. I've seen what it's like to be crap and I don't like it. Arsene Wenger, as Oluseyi has written, is destroying the legacy he created. If you can't understand that then it is you who has no intelligence. (And I've never downloaded a Beyonce track, you stupid tool).

  15. DvbrisG - buddy let me give you an example of the point that NBG was trying to make: Suppose you like shopping at Tesco. So you PAY Tesco for the things that you buy. But you are not happy with the stuff Tesco carries. You want them to have a Ferrari on display in every Tesco store. Since you pay Tesco money, shouldn't Tesco listen to you and put Ferraris in the stores? Do you think they will listen? Do you think the CEO of Tesco gives a rats ass? So now you are in a bind. Tesco is not going to put Ferraris in their stores just because you pay YOUR money to buy their stuff. So what are you gonna do? Boycott Tesco. Aaah see you don't want to do that, because you think Asda is crap. Sainsburys is shit. Marks & Spencer don't fit your wallet. So your left with the tough decision of boycotting Tesco or going to one of its rivals, which you obviously won't do. What now? Looks like your left with the choice of going back to Tesco with your tails between your legs, or the possibility of starvation. The choice is yours.

  16. Guys we are all Arsenal fans and we should act like brothers. Everyone have their opinions and therefore they should be respected and not causing arguements and swearing eachother. Ive always been supporting wenger and i have no doubt that he is one of the top manager in the world but maybe it is true maybe this has been taken a bit too far, he talks too much but does not act, this makes me feel sad firstly because i support him and i believe in him and secondly he never does anything about it. Yes the last 5-6 years he has managed our finances exceptionally well which is something nice to see happening in football that someone cares about the Arsenal and does not want to see the club having huge debts like most of the clubs have. BUT i believe it is time to buy players and off load players that do want to wear the ARSENAL shirt, why keep fabregas and nasri? which they ve stated they want to leave the club? why keep players when u know their mind is else where? Nasri just cant come out and say he believes we had the best team in premier league last season and then states that if signings are going to be made he will then consider his contract? that bullsh*t its all about the money no one cares about football clubs eveyone care about having money money money. so why keep him knowing he made his intentions clearly? Anyway my point is that we should buy players and offload who doesnt want to be playing with us and wenger should start dpoing something about it, thats why im so calm right now and ill wait when the transfer window closes and see where we stand with our squad and then start moaning about it or not. although he should have made signings before the asia tour.

  18. its all good saying that wengar must reveal his his plans to you all. but with mancini and fergie and this new chelsea man, plus liverpool and tottenham lurking around to buy who wenger wants to buy; he must do things in secrecy unfortunatly. believe it or or not if wenger had a billionaire owner who was willing to chuck money at him wenger would attract the best players from brazil to africa. as soon as you force him out he will be snapped up at real or barca or inter maybe even manu.
its a shame that wenger is blamed and not arsenal. the board needs a change. nobody said not to offer nasri a longer contract. you must put some blame towards the board also. they do the negotiations not wenger.
